About The Oaks

A quiet, well-kept yard in a lovely Cornish setting.

The Oaks is an 18-acre private small holding in the hamlet of Tretoil, just outside Bodmin. We sit adjacent to the National Trust Lanhydrock Estate and within easy reach of Bodmin Moor.

From the yard you can enjoy far-reaching views and a mix of quiet lanes and accessible off-road riding, including Lanhydrock Estate and Cardinham Woods. We’re around 10 miles from Fowey and Par Beach, and approximately 15 miles from the city of Truro.

The focus here is simple: relaxed, well-run DIY livery where horses are given space, turnout is managed properly and owners feel confident that their horses are safe, secure and settled.

The yard offers a total of twelve stable boxes, all well-proportioned and laid out to keep horses comfortable and easy to manage. Each stable benefits from:

The atmosphere is calm and organised, making daily routines straightforward whether you’re here once or several times a day.

Carefully managed grazing

18 acres of well-managed turnout.

The Oaks extends to approximately 18 acres, primarily split across three main fields and a smaller paddock. To protect the land and maintain good grazing, horses are split into two main turnout groups – typically boys and girls – and fields are rested and rotated between seasons.

This approach helps keep the ground in good condition, supports healthy herd dynamics and means your horse can enjoy proper turnout in a settled, well-looked-after environment.

Schooling space

A 20m x 45m menage for schooling and exercise.

Liveries have use of a large 20m x 45m menage, ideal for flatwork, pole work and general schooling. The arena offers plenty of space to work your horse properly without feeling crowded.

The menage can also be hired for private use by external riders, subject to availability, by arrangement with the owner on an hourly basis.

Practical day-to-day space

Plenty of storage where you need it.

Storage has been planned with real yard life in mind. On site you’ll find:

  • A large tack room
  • A dedicated feed room
  • An additional “overflow” storage box within the stable block
  • A spacious barn for hay, straw and shavings

The result is a tidy, organised yard where everything has its place and you’re not forever hunting for space.

On-site owner, CCTV & smart security.

Peace of mind is central to The Oaks. The owner lives on site and the yard is supported by a modern security setup.

Access to the yard is via electric gates with number plate recognition, so regular vehicles can be added and recognised automatically. Each livery also has personalised key fobs for controlled access, helping ensure that only authorised people and vehicles come onto the property.

The yard benefits from 24/7 CCTV coverage and smart sensors, and the tack room is protected by an access-control system with individual key fobs for each person on the yard.

There’s also free Wi-Fi and integrated speakers so you can play music across the yard – ideal for long days with the horses.

Easy access

Ample parking for cars, trailers & horseboxes.

Two large parking areas provide plenty of space for day-to-day parking and for manoeuvring trailers and horseboxes. Access is straightforward and designed with horse transport in mind.

Long-term on-site storage of trailers or horseboxes can also be arranged – simply speak to the owner to discuss options.
